2-Alarm Blaze Displaces Dozens At Elmwood Park Apartment Complex, Police Say Sixteen buildings lost power and multiple families were displaced after a 2-alarm fire broke out at an Elmwood Park apartment building overnight, authorities said. A caller reported seeing flames coming from a second-floor unit while driving on Iozia Terrace and called for help, according to Elmwood Park Police Chief Michael Foligno. Patrol officers responded to 78B Iozia Terrace just after 4:45 a.m., where they saw flames coming from the roof near the gutter, Foligno said. Pre-Dawn Fire Ravages Paterson Building Flames blew through the roof in an overnight fire that destroyed a vacant Paterson mixed-use building. Responders didn't find anyone in the Mercer Street location at Keen Street after the blaze broke out on the second floor around 4:30 a.m. Wednesday, March 22, authorities said. Firefighters were quickly pulled from inside the wood-frame building for safety reasons. Local streets were closed as they continued to douse stubborn pockets of flame past daybreak. Photos/Video: Garfield Fire Ravages Multi-Family, Mixed-Use Building UPDATE: A firefighter sustained a minor injury during a blaze that ripped through a multi-family, mixed-use Garfield building late Friday into Saturday. The fire broke out shortly before 11:30 p.m. on the second floor of the three-story Maple Avenue building, which houses the Sud's City laundry on Palisade Avenue.  It quickly blew through the attic and roof, collapsing a rear portion of the building collapsed soon after.
