Coach Keith Timmins is hoping his young athletes remember more than the numbers on the scoreboard, their final game a 3-1 victory against Woodcliff Lake last week.
"I hope our kids learned that the foundation of athletics comes from teamwork, sportsmanship and effort," Timmins told Daily Voice.
"The coaching staff, along with the parents of the children reinforcing fair play and that complaining and blaming others does not help in your growth as an athlete and as a kid overall.
"Play together, play hard, and have fun."
Timmins cited strong pitching and timely defense as the tactics that led his team to victory.
"Vincent Cicarelli started the game off with a single, which lead to a first inning rally allowing Maywood to score 3 runs," he said.
"That is all Maywood needed as the defense picked up the slack from there."
Lucas Compres played a strong second base throughout the game, and Xander Dougherty made several key plays at first base that anchored Maywood's defense.
Despite the standout performers, it took a total team effort to defeat Woodcliff Lake.
"We didn't win every game and never really discussed our record or score," Timmins said. "However, the boys started to understand on their own what hard work, effort, and teamwork leads to."
