Youngsters invited to free Fair Lawn Junior Police Academy

SHOUT OUT: Applications are being accepted on a first-come, first-served basis for the Fair Lawn Police Department the week of July 21.

This year’s junior academy training, which is free of charge, will include visits to the Bergen County Law & Public Safety Complex in Mahwah, the Bureau of Criminal Investigations at the county Sheriff’s Office and the county courthouse, both in Hackensack.

Junior recruits will also see demonstrations conducted by a county K-9 unit, bomb squad and SWAT team and also visit the Fair Lawn Fire Department, Rescue Squad and Ambulance Corps.

Recruits must be 11 to 14 years old by Aug. 1 to qualify.

Applications can be picked up at Fair Lawn Police headquarters, 8-01 Fair Lawn Ave.
