Assistant Bergen County Prosecutor Danielle Grootenboer told Presiding Superior Court Judge Liliana DeAvila-Silebi this morning that she will be seeking an additional 10 years flat for the desecration — on top of the 20-year-to-life sentence that Julio Flores is serving for the murder.
Flores, 36, who has been serving the longer sentence at Ossining State Prison in New York, was transferred to the Bergen County Jail on Feb. 11 pending the outcome of charges of desecrating human remains.
He didn’t speak during this morning’s brief hearing.
Grootenboer (below, left) said she will be calling the county medical examiner to testify as an expert witness in forensic pathology, among other witnesses.
Public defender Robert Kalisch noted that Flores, a Guatemalan native, is not a U.S. citizen — meaning that he will be subject to deportation once he finishes his sentence.
