Glenia S. DaSilva, 47, of Sylvan Street, became the target of an investigation after the New Jersey Motor Vehicle Commission reported the registrations and removal from the insurance policies as soon as she received insurance cards, Molinelli said in announcing her arrest this afternoon.

She was arrested by members of Molinelli’s White Collar Crimes Unit, who determined that DeSilva “allowed individuals who were unlicensed in the State of New Jersey and who often had illegal immigration status to drive these vehicles for a monthly fee,” the prosecutor said.

“The actual drivers were never reported to the insurance company nor were the drivers aware that they had no insurance,” he added.

DaSilva immediately posted $75,000 bail and was released after being charged with insurance fraud and falsifying records, pending a hearing in Central Municipal Court in Hackensack.

Molinelli said the MVC “will be taking administrative action against the vehicle registrations under this investigation that are determined to be uninsured.”
