Dozens of people were gathered outside Miller’s Ale House when police pulled up at 2:40 a.m. and found a 26-year-old Englewood man sprawled on the ground, Police Chief Kenneth Ehrenberg said.

As the officers tried to help him, others kicked and hit the victim, Ehrenberg said.

Backup quickly arrived, including Bergen County Police and colleagues from Fair Lawn, Maywood and Rochelle Park, the chief said.

The victim was treated at the scene and refused transportation to the hosptial, he said.

After breaking things up, officers charged Jamaal Brown, 25, of Englewood and 23-year-old Leonard Gueye of Hackensack with tumultuous behavior, refusing to disperse and resisting arrest.

They were released on court-appearance summonses later this morning.
