One deal leads to another with pot arrest

CLIFFVIEW PILOT HAS IT FIRST: An undercover detective working another case couldn’t help but notice the man with the stuffed backpack working the street: In a flash, several uniformed Hackensack police officers scooped up a Fairview man who they said was carrying several thousand dollars worth of marijuana, most of it already broken up into small bags.

Kareem Martin, 29, also had two scales, hundreds of small cellophane bags and more than $300 in in his pack when police converged on him near the corner of Frederick and Holt streets Wednesday afternoon, Detective Sgt. Thomas Salcedo told CLIFFVIEW PILOT.

Salcedo said Martin divided more than a half-pound into three sandwich bags. One held 118 small bags for hand-to-hand sale, while another had 115. The third had what was left of the pot, the captain said.

Martin was freed on $25,000 bail from the Bergen County Jail, pending grand jury action on various drug counts stemming from the arrest.
