Number of Teaneck serial brick throwings increases to nine

UPDATE: Following additional reports this morning, Teaneck police said they’re now investigating nine incidents last night in which bricks were thrown through the windows of homes and at vehicles — including one that sent an 18-year-old woman to the hospital.

Witnesses reported seeing a man on a bicycle in the area of the attacks, which began when a car on Helen Street was damaged around 9:50 last night, Detective Lt. Andrew McGurr told CLIFFVIEW PILOT.

The woman was lying on a couch when the brick came crashing through a living-room window around 11:10 p.m., McGurr said.

“She sustained a cut over her left eye, either from the brick or shattered glass,” he said.

She was taken to Hackensack University Medical Center, the lieutenant said.

Barely 10 minutes after she was injured, a brick came flying through the window of a home on Cumberland Avenue, McGurr said.

A car was damaged on Lincoln Place minutes later, he said.

Responding officers found another damaged car, this one on Windham Road, the lieutenant said.

Four more reports were taken this morning, one at another home and three more involving vehicles.

“All nine are within close proximity to one another,” McGurr said.

Home windows were smashed on Claremont and Cumberland avenues and Lincoln Place, while cars were damaged on Cumberland, Lincoln Place, Helen Street, Martense and Sagamore avenues and Wyndham Road.

McGurr asked that anyone who say anything, or has information that could help the investigation, call detectives: (201) 837-2600
