Bergen County Sheriff Michael Saudino launched the program seven years ago.
On Friday, Saudino was accompanied by his "chief," Joseph Cassese of Palisades Park, who has autism, and last year was saved from drowning in a creek in Overpeck Park.
Their days began at their homes where they were greeted by the chief from their local department, in some cases, along with some officers.
They were then escorted to headquarters to be sworn in before breakfast with the chief, a walk-through of daily duties, and some even went into school in full uniform to say hello to their peers.
The day culminated around noon for pictures on the steps of the Bergen County Courthouse in Hackensack and a luncheon.
