Matthew Chaseman had crashed his car moments earlier and remained inside when security at the Bergen County Social Services building on northbound Route 17 called police just before 3:30 a.m., the prosecutor said.

Two responding officers struck him with shots "in the lower extremities," Molinelli said. He was taken to Hackensack University Medical Center, the prosecutor said.

Law enforcement sources told Daily Voice that Chaseman had just pulled into the driveway of the building near the Maywood border when the incident occurred.

Chaseman, who records show has had some driving summonses in the past, doesn't have a criminal record.
