Maywood arrests suspect in bicycle purse snatch

YOU READ IT HERE FIRST: A keen-eyed Maywood patrol officer arrested an accused purse snatcher who struggled with his victim after riding up on a bicycle.

The victim freed herself after a brief struggle and called police after being attacked on Maywood Avenue, Police Chief David Pegg said.

The robber approached her while riding his bike south around 7:10 p.m., grabbed her shoulder purse and struggled with her, she told police.

A short time later, Officer Walter Moussou spotted a man fitting the robber’s description in the Duane Reade parking lot on the corner of Maywood Avenue and Essex Street.

After talking with him, Moussou arrested 29-year-old Hugo Orejuela of Maywood.

Orejuela was being held on $100,000 bail in the Bergen County Jail, charged with robbery.
