The 1997 Lexus had rounded a bend on Oak Trail Road Tuesday afternoon when the driver suddenly came upon a parked car and a wood chipper being used by tree-trimming crew working in the area, Hillsdale Police Chief Chip Stalter said.

“The driver jammed on the brakes, leaving significant skid marks, lost control, began fishtailing, struck the wood chipper, struck the parked Honda Accord, hit the curb and left the roadway, overturning as it did so,” he said.

The car ended up on its rooftop on someone’s lawn. The teenaged driver, identified as Eric P Czerizer, and his two juvenile passengers climbed out without serious injuries but were dazed and complaining of pain, the chief said.

The Hillsdale Fire Department helped right the overturned car, while Hillsdale and Tri-Boro emergency service units tended to the youngsters. All three were brought to Hackensack University Medical Center, Stalter said.

The crash follows the weekend deaths of Jarrett Gallipoli, of Hillsdale, and backseat passenger Anthony Picinic, of Cliffside Park, in a crash on a Maryland highway, as the 20-year-old pals were speeding home from a visit to West Virginia University, authorities said.
