The father called police after finding his unconscious 24-year-old daughter in a hallway of their home and ripping the bag off her head around 3:30 a.m., Lt. Thomas Ryan told CLIFFVIEW PILOT.
Officers Thomas Reinecke and James Morgan arrived in less than a minute.
“She wasn’t breathing and didn’t have a pulse,” Ryan said.
The officers began CPR and, after about two minutes, “she started to breath and became responsive,” he said.
The woman told them she’d taken a handful of Ambien because she “did not want to live another 90 years like this,” the lieutenant said.
She’d also left a handwritten suicide note, he said.
A Haworth Ambulance crew took the woman to Eglewood Hospital and Medical Center. An ALS unit from Hackensack University Medical Center also responded.
Four months ago, Reinecke and Morgan rescued a 22-year-old heroin user from a suicide attempt by using Narcan.
Ryan praised the “quick response and actions of these officers, who put their thorough training to use in rescuing a citizen in need.”
