Nathaniel Coleman walked up to a man leaving an ATM just after 11 p.m. Thursday, demanded money, then punched him in the face when he didn’t produce any, Detective Capt. Thomas Salcedo told CLIFFVIEW PILOT.

Coleman then rifled through the victim’s pockets, took the cash and fled, he said.

Detective Ryan Weber had Coleman in custody less than 24 hours later after reviewing surveillance video from several businesses, Salcedo said.

Coleman, 45, was being held on $150,000 bail in the Bergen County Jail, charged with robbery.

It was Coleman’s first arrest in roughly a year — but one of nearly two dozen over the past two decades, just about all out of Hackensack and most involving drugs, robbery and assault, as well as parole violations.
