Hackensack bondsman accused of selling heroin to clients

CLIFFVIEW PILOT HAS IT FIRST: A bail bondsman used his job to attract heroin buyers, including an undercover detective from the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office who made two buys before setting up a large bust that snared him and a man identified as his supplier, authorities said today.

David Rodriguez, a 36-year-old Paterson bail bondsman, is being held on $100,000 bail in the Bergen County Jail, as is Itavious Reid, 28, also of Paterson, Bergen County Prosecutor John L. Molinelli said.

Members of Molinelli’s Narcotics Task Force — with assistance from Hackensack and Paterson police — made the arrests after receiving a tip last month that Rodriguez was dealing to his customers, Molinelli said.

An undercover officer bought from Rodriguez twice, the prosecutor said — once in Hackensack and then in Paterson.

The narc then arranged to buy 200 bricks of heroin for heroin for $28,000 during a meeting off Route 80 in Paterson, Molinelli said.

Officers swooped in and grabbed both Rodriguez and Reid, along with the heroin and 10,000 wax bags used to sell individual doses on the street, he said.
