The officer, who had several cuts on his head after being ambushed, subdued the man, who was hospitalized at St. Joseph’s Regional Medical Center.

Charges of aggravated assault on a police officer, among other offenses, were being brought, authorities said.

The Lanza Avenue defendant had been involved in a domestic dispute with his mother when police were called.

“As he walked in, he got hit,” a ranking police official told CLIFFVIEW PILOT. “The officer then got the suspect under control and into custody.”

The mother wasn’t injured, he said.
