Fugitive in New Hampshire shooting caught in Bergen

ANOTHER CVP SCOOP: Authorities in Bergen County have captured a fugitive wanted out of New Hampshire for jumping bail after police there reported finding him hiding in an attic — with a .380 caliber semi-automatic handgun and ammo — while investigating a shooting, CLIFFVIEW PILOT has learned.

John De La Cruz, 24, is being held in the Bergen County Jail pending extradition to Hillsborough County, NH, following his arrest by U.S. Marshals.

Police in Manchester said they were investigating a report of shots fired in a neighborhood last April when they found De La Cruz in a third-floor apartment.

An officer said he was walking toward a bedroom after hearing noises inside the apartment when he spotted De La Cruz peering down at him through the attic door.

De La Cruz was carrying a magazine containing several rounds, authorities said, adding that the gun and additional rounds were found in the attic.

“By the way, I have hollow point bullets, too,” De La Cruz reportedly told an officer.

Two other residents of the apartment were arrested after they become belligerent. One was pepper-sprayed during what turned into a struggle, police said.

Unless De La Cruz waives extradition, a hearing in Hackensack will be scheduled. Until then, he is being held without bond.
