Firefighters free driver after Chevy 4×4 slams into utility pole in Teaneck

YOU SAW IT HERE FIRST: New Milford, River Edge, and Teaneck firefighters freed a 17-year-old Bergenfield driver trapped in his 4×4 this afternoon after it slammed into a utility pole on New Bridge Road in Teaneck — the same spot that a driver was killed in a similar wreck six months ago.

New Bridge Road was closed in both directions as rescuers freed the man, who complained of severe leg pain and was taken to Hackensack University Medical Center by the Teaneck Volunteer Ambulance Corps, after the Chevy Tahoe slammed into the pole around 2:15 p.m.

“The injuries don’t appear to be life-threatening,” Acting Teaneck Police Chief Robert Carney told CLIFFVIEW PILOT.

He was extricated by River Edge FD Rescue 1, Engine 3 and Teaneck FD Engine 4, Rescue 1 with New Milford Chief 301 in command of the scene

Responders also included Bergen County sheriff’s officers, Teaneck, River Edge and New Milford police and Holy Name Medical Center paramedics.

The crash reportedly knocked out electrical, cable TV and phone services in the immediate area.

It occurred at the same spot near Rosse Avenue at the River Edge border where a 29-year-old Hackensack driver was killed in March when his hydroplaning car smashed into a utility pole.

A roadside memorial was scattered by the downed pole.
