Exploding tire at Ridgewood gas station seriously injures man

YOU READ IT HERE FIRST: A 50-year-old main sustained a serious head injury when a tire he was filling at a Ridgewood gas station exploded this morning.

The victim was knocked unconscious for awhile at First Sunoco on North Maple Avenue and First Street and may have suffered a punctured eardrum, emergency workers at the scene told CLIFFVIEW PILOT.

Members of the Ridgewood Volunteer Ambulance Corps, assisted by a paramedic unit from The Valley Hospital in Ridgewood, took him to Hackensack University Medical Center.

A first response EMT crew from the Ridgewood Fire Department also assisted at the scene.

Ridgewood Police Officer Paul Dinice is handling the investigation of the incident.
