A good Samaritan who was passing the Cellular Touch Wireless store on West Palisade Avenue at 4:30 a.m. Friday called police to report the break-in. Officers were on their way when the store’s burglar alarm sounded.
The burglars had thrown a large rock through the front door to get in, then ran south down the railroad tracks behind the store after the theft, Detective Capt. Timothy Torell told CLIFFVIEW PILOT.
“I’m pretty sure the two of them didn’t realize that the police station is literally one block away in the exact direction they were running,” Torell said.
Officers Fabian Gallego and Matthew Zeuner grabbed the two, who were carrying the booty and tools, he said.
Kareem Reubin, 20, was charged with burglary, theft, credit card theft and possession of burglary tools, as well as employing a juvenile in a crime and child abuse. He was being held on $86,500 bail in the Bergen County Jail.
The teen was released to a guardian pending a delinquency hearing in Family Court in Hackensack on complaints involving burglary, theft, credit card theft and possession of burglary tools, Torell said.
