The 20-year-old driver lost control of her Volkwagen, which struck the pole on Hudson Terrace at Van Nostrand Avenue around 10:30 a.m., rolled and caught fire from the burning transformers, Lt. James Tracy told CLIFFVIEW PILOT this afternoon.

Deputy Police Chief Michael McMorrow and Officers Demetrius Salogiannis, Sean Flannelly and Dan O’Shea crawled under the live wires, smashed a window and rescued the woman before flames eventually consumed the vehicle, Tracy said.

She was taken to Hackensack University Medical Center with injuries that weren’t considered serious, the lieutenant said.

The heroes weren’t injured.

Power was briefly knocked out to several nearby areas.

Hudson Terrace was due to remain closed until 8 p.m. while emergency crews replace the pole and transformer.
