Two driver and passenger of the Nissan Xterra were taken to St. Joseph’s Hospital and Medical Center after the crash around 1 p.m. at Lyncrest Avenue and Willow Street.

None had injuries that were considered serious, authorities said.

The 22-year-old officer, who was taken to Hackensack University Medical Center, “had no apparent serious injuries but had elevated blood pressure and was definitely shaken up,” Elmwood Park Police Chief Michael Foligno told CLIFFVIEW PILOT.

The officer “was on patrol near the border and was looping around through Fair Lawn to head back into town when he apparently went through a stop sign,” he said.

He didn’t have his lights or siren on, the chief said.

Foligno summoned the Bergen County Sheriff’s Bureau of Police Services to conduct an impartial investigation of the crash.

First responders included Elmwood Park and Fair Lawn BLS and Fair Lawn Rescue and Engine 3.
