Police arrested the driver, 27-year-old Anthony T. Cinelli of Saddle Brook (mugshot above), after the 1:30 a.m. crash today.

The officer was taken to Hackensack University Medical Center but fortunately avoided serious injury, Bergen County Police Chief Brian Higgins said.

The officer had pulled over another motorist on the shoulder of Route 4 east near the River Edge border, with the patrol car’s emergency lights on, when he saw the BMW bearing down on him, Lt. James Mullin said.

His legs were whacked as the officer jumped back into his vehicle, Mullin said.
