Disabled woman rescued, cat dies in Moonchie mobile home fire

YOU READ IT HERE FIRST: Moonachie police rescued a 44-year-old disabled resident whose cat died in a mobile home fire apparently caused by a faulty appliance early this morning.

Moonachie Police Officers Christopher Inserra and Kelly Ricardo arrived less than a minute after the 5:07 a.m. call at the Metropolitan Mobile Home park on Moonachie Road and removed the disabled resident from the front porch, Sgt. Jeff Napolitano said.

They then evacuated the complex, as the woman’s home became engulfed, the sergeant said.

The blaze was put down by Moonachie firefighters, with assistance from their colleagues from Wood-Ridge, Little Ferry, Carlstadt, and South Hackensack.

Several surrounding homes sustained exterior heat and water damage but didn’t catch fire, Napolitano said.

No injuries were reported.
