Authorities believe they cracked a series of Bergen County home burglaries with the arrest of a Carlstadt ex-con outside his home on Thursday afternoon.

Detectives from Hasbrouck Heights, Rochelle Park, Saddle River, River Edge, Hillsdale, River Vale, Wood-Ridge and Carlstadt formed a task force that followed Michael Martinez, 44, before taking him into custody this past Thursday.

He had with him a hypodermic needle, as well as proceeds from a Rochelle Park break-in, they said.

Hasbrouck Heights police immediately charged him with a Jan. 10 break-in.

Teaneck brought a single count of burglary, and Rochelle Park two, as well as one charge each of theft and criminal attempt an and two of criminal mischief.

Martinez -- who records show has a prior record involving burglary and assault on police -- remained held on $50,000 bail in the Bergen County Jail.
