Bergen Undercover 'Parent' In Child Sex Chat Nails California Man

HACKENSACK, N.J. -- A California man who authorities said had an online exchange about having sex with a 6-year-old girl was arrested when it turned out the "parent" he thought he was chatting with was an investigator from the Bergen County Prosecutor's Office.

Douglas Deibel, 39, was being held in Sacramento pending extradition to New Jersey on child endangerment charges following his arrest Wednesday.

A Superior Court judge in Hackensack set bail at $75,000 once he is lodged at the Bergen County Jail.

Using the screen name “DejaVu1877," Deibel contacted the “parent”-- a BCPO Computer Crimes Unit detective -- and "described his attraction to viewing child pornography and his desire to be with a child for those purposes," Bergen County Prosecutor John L. Molinelli said.

Diebel -- a separated, self-employed graphic designer -- "also transmitted numerous images of child exploitation to [the investigator] he believed was the parent," the prosecutor said.

Molinelli's detectives joined the California Highway Patrol, California Department of Insurance, the Sacramento Valley High Tech Crimes Task Force and the Elk Grove Police Department in searching Deibel's home and seizing his computer.
