The "growing Korean population in Bergen County" makes it essential for authorities on both sides to "have an understanding of their cultural variety and cultural differences," said Saudino, who took his trip to Seoul late last month at the invitation of the Seongdong Police.
He visited the policing training institute and said he was "amazed" by the technological advances.
“The training is quite similar to that in the United States," the sheriff said. "I am sure that the exchange of policing practices will enhance both agencies in providing the highest quality of law enforcement services.”
Saudino also visited National Assembly of the Republic of Korea, The War Memorial of Korea, and the General Douglas MacArthur Statue in Inchon Freedom Fund Park, where he laid a wreath.
James Chung Yung Yul, the sheriff's cultural liaison, and interpreter Esther Chung accompanied Saudino on the trip.
