Bergen County Police say DWI driver left car, 2 injured passengers, on Route 4

A 22-year-old woman who Bergen County police said bailed out of her car after a drunk-driving accident on Route 4 in Teaneck — leaving two injured passengers behind — was charged with DWI, assault by auto and not having an insurance card after turning herself in before dawn today.

Krystal Arce of Wanaque called Bergen County Police just after 2 a.m. today, more than 13 hours after the crash on Route 4 at the Queen Anne Road exit, Lt. James Giblin said.

County Officer Thomas Miller found Arce’s 2008 Honda Civic in the left land of the highway — with two injured passengers inside at 1:05 Sunday afternoon, Giblin said.

A second vehicle involved in the crash, a 2012 Chrysler minivan, was nearby, the lieutenant said.

Two male passengers in Arce’s car were taken to Holy Name Hospital for treatment of minor injuries, he said. A male and female occupant of the minivan were also released, from Hackensack University Medical Center, with minor injuries.

Witnesses told Miller that Arce took off and was last seen heading south on Queen Anne Road, Giblin said.

K9 Officer Stan Tovbin searched the area, with no luck.

Police quickly identified the driver as Arce.

Arce was released on her own recognizance to a family member. A court date is pending on charges of:

  • DWI
  • Leaving the scene of an accident
  • Reckless driving
  • No insurance card in possession
  • Assault by auto (4 counts)
