“His family appreciates everyone respecting their privacy at this difficult time and they will continue to send updates as necessary,” the captain added. “The Breslin family also asks that you continue to pray for a speedy recovery.”

Breslin, a father of two, was critically injured after his department SUV was rammed from behind when he stopped to help a fellow officer who lost his radio connection on Route 46 in Lodi before dawn Saturday.

Michael Ettz, a Lodi High School teacher charged with the crash, was drunk at the time, authorities said.

There will be a group prayer vigil at 8 p.m. tomorrow at Holy Trinity Church, 34 Maple Avenue Hackensack.
