Accused burglar: ‘Personal issues’ drove him to break into Hackensack charter school — three times

UPDATE: An Englewood man told Hackensack police that he’d broken into and slept in a city charter school three times in two and a half weeks — including yesterday, when he was arrested — because he’d had some “personal issues.”

However, police said that 46-year-old Barry Green also stole more than $15,000 worth of computers and iPads over that time, police said.

City police and a Bergen County Sheriff’s K-9 unit found Green inside the Bergen Arts and Science Charter School yesterday after a security guard spotted him walking around, Detective Capt. Thomas Salcedo said.

A review of surveillance video showed Green there on each occasion including Feb. 13 and last Wednesday, during which iPads and laptops, among other items, were taken, records show, the captain said.

This time, a computer was found in a bag near the door, Salcedo said.

Green remained held on $50,000 bail in the Bergen County Jail, charged with three counts each of burglary and theft.

The previously stolen items hadn’t yet been recovered.
