The bill, which was drafted after the reality television star collected $32,000 for a 2011 event at Rutger's University, is meant to prohibit public institutions of higher education from using state funds upwards of $10,000 to pay fee of commencement and other speakers.
Polizzi's fee, however, didn't come from tax dollars, NorthJersey.com reports. Instead, hers was covered by Rutgers' Programming Association using mandatory student activity fees, the article says.
Polizzi was paid $2,000 more than Nobel-prize winning author Toni Morrison who spoke at commencement the same year.
"Study hard, but party harder," Polizzi said at the event.
