The Superfund program aims to clean up the most polluted areas in the county, and New Jersey has over 100 sites across the state already in the program.
EPA testers looked at the lower 17 miles of the river over the last few months and found high levels of cadmium, lead, mercury, dioxin and PCBs, and other contaminants, reported NorthJersey.com.
The new EPA study will take place next year.
