After a years-long closure, El Cid, the iconic Spanish restaurant in Paramus, is making a highly anticipated return—this time with a new family at the helm.

The restaurant has been acquired by the Moreira family, owners of Nanni Ristorante in Rochelle Park, and they’re committed to bringing back the same El Cid that customers knew and loved.

Rob Moreira, whose father, Manny Moreira, opened Nanni’s just before El Cid in the early 1990s, said the family is working with Vinny Pita, the former El Cid owner, for a smooth transition (Pita is even sharing favorited recipes!).

The new owners are making interior repairs and updating kitchen equipment, with hopes of reopening in the coming weeks, Moreira said.

El Cid was a staple in the borough for nearly 30 years, known for its authentic Spanish cuisine and lively atmosphere before it quietly closed three to four years ago.

El Cid is located at 205 Paramus Road. A specific reopening date has not yet been announced.
