The program is available to any Hackensack resident transported by the hospital's ambulance, regardless of their insured status or ability to pay, the city's website says.

The city's finance department will reimburse residents for certain, uninsured costs associated with transportation.

If you have health insurance, HUMC will bill your carrier. Co-pays not covered by the carrier can be submitted — with proof — for reimbursement from the City of Hackensack.

Those without will receive an 80% discount. The remaining balance will be paid by the resident, with reimbursement from the City of Hackensack. Patients without insurance can also apply for charity care through HUMC to have the remaining balance waived.

All questions concerning the procedure may be directed to James Mangin, CFO, jmangin@hackensack.org, 201-646-3935.
