Discount Kennedy Furniture is saying no one obtained a permit from the township for the blowtorch, which was used in fixing the roof, and that no one had a fire extinguisher ready in case of emergency, the article says.

The fire broke out in December 2016 and burned for hours, scorching the store's inventory and destroying the building, NJ.com says.

The landlord in court papers is identified as Stephen Ascione of Birck, and the construction company is AAA Empire Construction of Haledon, according to the story.
