A Mercer County high school teacher accused of sexually assaulting a student several times at a Monmouth County wildlife preserve was released from jail to await her trial, authorities said. A judge denied a request on Wednesday, Apr. 17 to keep 37-year-old Jessica Sawicki of Point Pleasant Beach in jail through her trial, a Monmouth County Prosecutor's Office spokesperson said. She was charged with five counts of second-degree sexual assault and five counts of second-degree endangering the welfare of a child. A Jersey Shore native who became the highest-ranking officer in the Marines has died, the military branch said. Retired Gen. Alfred Gray Jr. died on Wednesday, Mar. 20 after "a brief stay in hospice care," the U.S. Marines Corps announced. He was 95 years old. Gray Jr. was the 29th commandant of the Marine Corps from 1987 to 1991. An Ocean County man was killed in a snowmobiling accident near a popular Vermont ski area, according to his obituary. Matthew Morris of Point Pleasant Beach died from his injuries on Tuesday, Feb. 20 while snowmobiling near Stratton Mountain Resort, his obituary said. He was 31 years old. The body recovered at Point Pleasant Beach has been identified as the 21-year-old missing boater lost in Manasquan Inlet after his fishing vessel capsized earlier this month, authorities said.
