Tragedy: NJ Boy, 17, Drowns In Backyard Pool A 17-year-old Bergen County boy drowned in a backyard pool as the 2023 Fourth of July holiday period was about to begin, authorities confirmed. The boy's father conducted CPR after finding the lifeless teen behind their Hillsdale home shortly before 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, June 28. A rig from the Township of Washington Volunteer Ambulance Corps was requested and the boy was transported to The Valley Hospital in Ridgewood, responders said. He was pronounced dead soon after, they said. A cause is pending an investigation by the Bergen County Medical Examiner's Office. Any further information …

The day-long Fourth of July event is making its big return this summer after a two-year hiatus due to COVID-19, according to its website. With a steady decline in New Jersey's coronavirus cases, "it is the perfect time to bring Oceanfest back,” Co-chair Esther Cohen told NJ Advance Media. Authorities Identify South Jersey Girl, 10, Killed In Drive-By Shooting The 10-year-old girl who was shot and killed in a drive-by-shooting on the Fourth of July has been identified by authorities in South Jersey. She reportedly was visiting her grandmother's home in Vineland when the fatal shooting occurred.  The girl fatally shot on Sunday was Jasayde Holder, the Cumberland County prosecutor said. Jasayde had just completed 4th grade at Dane Barse School in Vineland, according to Prosecutor Jennifer Webb-McRae.  She was described by her family as creative. She loved music and riding her bike.
