NJ Hotel Tells Guests Not To Shower Amid Legionnaires' Concerns
Guests at a Newark Airport hotel are being urged to take a bath instead of a shower as Legionnaire's bacteria was found in water samples. The Renaissance Newark Airport Hotel in a letter to guests said a "remediation process" is underway in cooperation with the New Jersey Department of Health and the City of Elizabeth Department of Health and Human Services. Legionnaire's Outbreak Probed In Bergen, Passaic Counties: State Health Officials
The New Jersey Department of Health announced is investigating a possible cluster of Legionnaires' disease in Passaic and Bergen Counties, officials announced this week. The state DOH said Wednesday, Aug. 9 there were nine confirmed cases in Passaic County and one in Bergen County. The onset of symptoms occurred from May to August. An investigation is ongoing as to what caused the possible outbreak, the NJDOH said. A potential outbreak of Legionnaires' Disease is being investigated in several adjacent towns in Bergen and Passaic County, the health department reports. A total of seven cases have been confirmed with one “suspected” case still being investigated, the New Jersey Department of Health said in a Thursday release. Bacteria that causes a certain type of pneumonia was found in a majority of water samples from about 30 Central Jersey homes, authorities announced. Legionella bacteria — which causes Legionnaires' disease — was found in water samples collected from more than half of 30 homes within several municipalities served by Trenton Water Works (TWW), the New Jersey Department of Health (NJDOH) said Saturday, Oct. 15. Five more people have contracted Legionnaires’ disease in Mercer County, and there has been a third fatality since the outbreak began last summer, authorities said. A total of nine cases of the disease -- a type of pneumonia caused by Legionella bacteria -- are under investigation by the New Jersey Department of Health. Legionnaires Disease Outbreak Reported In Union County, 5 Dead
The state Department of Health Friday said five people who live in or have visited Union County have recently died of Legionnaires’ disease, a form of pneumonia that’s especially dangerous to the very young, the very old and those with compromised immune systems. A total of 22 people contracted the illness between March 8 and mid-May, state officials said.
