North Jersey Native Critically Injured Fighting Baltimore Fire Sees Community Support
People are coming together to support Dillion Rinaldo, a lieutenant in the Baltimore City Fire Department and a Fair Lawn native, who was seriously injured battling a three-alarm blaze last week. A fundraiser has been launched for Rinaldo and his fiancée, Lauren. As of Tuesday, Oct. 24, more than $73,000 has been raised. Rinaldo remains in a burn center while he recovers from the fire that killed one firefighter. "Dillon is the most selfless individual anyone knows." Scott Greco, who organized the fundraiser, said. There's been an outpouring of support for a popular math teacher from Morristown High School who died after a car accident on Feb. 27 and "touched the lives of everyone." Nearly 700 donors have contributed to this GoFundMe organized to honor the memory of 11-year math teacher Michael F. “Mike” Caruso, of Rockaway. Caruso died suddenly on Feb. 27. He was 42 years old. A restaurant manager in Elmwood Park was punched in the face when he tried to stop a woman who'd just snatched $10 from the tip jar, authorities said. A kitchen socket was blown off the wall, a surveillance camera was knocked from the back of the home and a window was blown out when lightning struck a backyard tree in Glen Rock during Wednesday night's storm, authorities said. "The vacationing homeowner is extremely lucky, as is the family dog," Police Chief Dean Ackermann said.
