27 Sickened, 4 Hospitalized In Pool Chemical Exposure During NJ Swimming Lessons
Twenty-seven people -- mostly kids -- were sickened by a chemical exposure during swimming lessons at a Parsippany pool, sending four children and one adult to the hospital Friday morning, authorities said. Police were called to the Glacier Hills Association Pool where the individuals, primarily children taking swimming lessons, had been exposed to a vapor cloud of chlorine and muriatic acid around 9:20 a.m., Chief Andrew Miller said in a release. Chemicals In Rutgers Lab Caused Major Seziures, Former Employee Says In Federal Suit
A former Rutgers University worker says he was exposed to hazardous chemicals that caused him to have major seizures, according to a federal lawsuit. Jacob Moskowitz claims that Rutgers' chemistry department hired him as a scientific glassblower with no experience in that job. Then he was asked to handle chemicals that he said caused epilepsy and anxiety. One of the hazardous materials was thorium, a radioactive metal found in rocks and soils, according to the suit. : Clogged Toilet Caused HazMat Response At Garden State Plaza, Police Say
An attempt to unclog a toilet at the Garden State Plaza sent one person to the hospital for chemical exposure Wednesday, authorities said. The shopper was transported after a mall maintenance worker and plumber poured two different types of chemicals down the same drain causing a hazardous condition, local police said.
