Firefighters responded to the 60s block of Mount Pleasant Avenue on a call of an oxygen tank rupture around 8:05 a.m. Saturday, Newark Public Safety Director Anthony Ambrose. While there was no fire, the man had burns on his face and was subsequently taken to Saint Barnabas Medical Center, according to Ambrose and RLS Media. The man had reportedly been trying to light a cigarette while oxygen was being administered, which started a fire, RLS Media says.

Three-Alarm Fire Rips Through Vacant School In Newark Nearly 90 firefighters battled a three-alarm blaze at the American History High School building in Newark Wednesday, Public Safety Director Anthony Ambrose said in a statement.  The fire broke out at the vacant school on Warren Street around 12:30 p.m. It was brought under control in about 90 minutes, Ambrose said.  A fire firefighter suffered a minor injury and was treated at University Hospital.  The cause of the fire was under investigation.
