Thomas F. Gilhooley, 80, Involved In Garfield Football

GARFIELD, N.J. -- Thomas F. Gilhooley, of Garfield, died Sept. 9. He was 80.

Gilhooley was born Jan. 25, 1936, in Manhattan, N.Y., residing there for five years, then Elmwood Park for 16 years before moving to Garfield 59 years ago. 

He attended St. Leo’s Grammar School and graduated from Pope Pius XII High School in 1954. 

An avid New York Yankees, he even tried out for the team when he was 17.

Gilhooley was involved with the Garfield Junior Boilermakers during the time his four sons played football. 

He owned and operated a milk distribution company for many years. 

Gilhooley was predeceased by his parents, Thomas and Bridget. 

He is survived by his wife, Frances; daughter, Mary Knebl (Kenneth); sons, Thomas P. and Catherine, Michael (Deborah), James (Michele), and John (Olga); grandchildren, Thomas, Ryan, Christopher, Kenny, Kallie, Patrick, Sean, Meghan, James and Nicholas; and sisters, Anne Marie Ryant, Kathleen Tuttle and Ellen Dueltgen.

Visiting will be from 4-8 p.m. Monday at Aloia Funeral Home, 180 Harrison Ave., Garfield.

The funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, arriving at the funeral home and  followed by an 11:30 a.m. Mass at Corpus Christi RC Church, 218 Washington Place., Hasbrouck Heights.
