Damato served on the Garfield School Board for 15 years. He was a coach and director of the Garfield Junior Boilermakers for many years. He was a former captain of Garfield Fire Company 3, where he volunteered for more than 21 years, and he was a member of the New Jersey State Exempt Firemen's Association.
He was a manager of the BWO Professional Wrestling Organization and a truck driver for PAV Express Trucking and Warehousing, in Clifton.
Damato is survived by his wife of 34 years, Karen; children Jennifer, Dana and Anthony Jr.; and grandchildren Vincent and Ethan.
Visiting hours will be from 4-8 p.m. on Wednesday, June 1, with a 7:45 p.m. chapel service, at the Aloia Funeral Home, 180 Harrison Ave., in Garfield. Cremation will be private.
In lieu of flowers, the Damato family is accepting memorial donations.
