A 55-year-old New Jersey man fell 60 feet while climbing a New Hampshire mountain over the weekend, sustaining head and arm injuries as well as hypothermia, authorities said. The Oakland man was climbing Mount Webster in New Hampshire’s White Mountains with a friend on Saturday, Dec. 14, when he slipped and fell. The call of a smoky third-floor fire in the four-story building at 140 West Englewood Avenue, between Teaneck and Queen Anne roads, came in shortly before 10:30 a.m. It was quickly doused in minutes and declared under control in under a half hour, with no serious injuries immediately reported. Boy, 8, Rescued After Being Swallowed By Jersey Shore Sand Hole
An 8-year-old boy was freed by rescuers after the walls of a sand hole he was digging collapsed in on him Saturday, authorities said. The boy was completely covered by the sand when rescuers arrived to the 8th Avenue beach in Belmar around 1:55 p.m., local police said. The Belmar Lifeguards, the Belmar First Aid Squad and the Belmar Fire Department helped pull him from beneath the sand, police said.
