Born in Newark and raised in Hudson County, Jerry DeMarco is a 38-year veteran of the news industry and a renowned breaking news reporter. He has covered local, county and state police, as well as the FBI, ATF and other federal agencies.

DeMarco joined Daily Voice in 2015 after six years running Cliffview Pilot, one of the nation's few independent breaking news sites. As an independent publisher, he helped establish Local Independent Online News, a national trade organization.

Prior to launching his own site, DeMarco served as a reporter for the Bergen Record, Stamford Advocate, Rockland Journal News, News Tribune, and Trenton Times.

DeMarco has won national recognition for his investigative work, including Clarion, Heywood Broun and Deadline Club awards. He's changed public policy and managed several major projects -- including one that helped put a corrupt public official in federal prison and another that forced a sitting New Jersey attorney general from office for her participation in a Bergen County traffic stop involving her boyfriend.

DeMarco regularly lectures at a graduate course in media relations at Fairleigh Dickinson University and previously was an adjunct professor at Lehman College in the Bronx.

He has a Bachelor's Degree in English from St. Peter's University in Jersey City.

Fairview Trucker Charged In Pregnant Woman Toy Gun Sex Assault FAIRVIEW, N.J. -- A Salvadoran national from Fairview was charged with sexually assaulting a pregnant woman while pointing what proved to be a toy gun at her. Firefighters Make Quick Work Of Hasbrouck Heights Basement Blaze HASBROUCK HEIGHTS, N.J. -- Hasbrouck Heights firefighters quickly extinguished a basement fire Tuesday afternoon in a home on the 100 block of Boulevard. Leonia Schools Shut 6 Water Fountains With High Lead Levels LEONIA, N.J. -- Leonia school officials have shut six of the district's 98 fountains and receptacles at all three schools, the annex and the Board of Education headquarters after testing showed unacceptable lead levels, authorities said. Small Electrical Fire Briefly Clears Ridgewood School RIDGEWOOD, N.J. -- A small electrical fire in a music room forced the brief evacuation Tuesday morning of Ridgewood's Travell School. Canned Employee Returns With Loaded Gun, Franklin Lakes Police Charge FRANKLIN LAKES, N.J. -- A Nanuet man fired from a Franklin Lakes nursery returned with a gun and was quickly arrested, authorities said. Hackensack Man Had Sex Videos With Girl, 13, On Phone, Prosecutor Says HACKENSACK, N.J. -- Hackensack police were making a drug arrest when they found a two videos on a city man's phone of him sexually touching a 13-year-old girl. Fort Lee Police Nab Fugitive In Bomb-Making Case FORT LEE, N.J. -- Extradition proceedings were under way for a Connecticut fugitive caught by Fort Lee police after authorities charged him with trying to make bombs in his home.
