Leonians Are Invited to Edgewater Trick or Treat Trail
EDGEWATER, N.J. -- A “spooktacular” Halloween event is planned for Edgewater and Leonia residents at the Edgewater Marina on Saturday, Oct.31 from 10 a.m. until noon. Participants in the fourth annual Trunk or Treat will meet at the Edgewater Ferry in their costumes and enter the grounds for the Trick or Treat Trail. There will be a variety of “safe trick-or-treat” stops set up around the property, sponsored by neighborhood businesses and organizations. BERGEN COUNTY, N.J. -- The state Division of Fish and Wildlife reminds motorists to be alert for white-tailed deer with the arrival of the fall breeding season, a time of year when deer unexpectedly may dart onto roads and cause accidents. Motorists are urged to be especially attentive during morning and evening commutes when visibility may be poor. Deer are involved in thousands of collisions in New Jersey every year, with as many as half coming during the fall mating season, known as the rutting season. Judge Releases Accused 'Psychotic' Leonia Child Sex Offender
LEONIA, N.J. -- Saying the law doesn’t allow her to hold him, a judge in Hackensack on Thursday released a Leonia child sex assault defendant who violated the conditions of his bail several times while being deemed "schizophrenic, paranoid, psychotic and bipolar." Bergen County Sheriff's K-9 Unit Visits Lodi Junior Police Recruits
LODI, N.J. -- A Bergen County Sheriff's K-9 unit visited the Lodi Junior Police Academy class this week. This is the fifth week of instruction and demonstration for Lodi's junior police recruits, who “continued to excel and push themselves to be better physically and mentally,” organizers said. Paterson Peer Mentoring Program Wins Schools Competition
PATERSON, N.J. -- Paterson Charter School of Science & Technology students took first place out of nine schools competing last week in the 2015 Passaic County Teen Summit. The winning team, from the FreshSTEP peer mentoring program at PCSST, was awarded a $500 grant from the Paterson Municipal Alliance. The students were required to present their campaign to raise substance abuse awareness in the form of a two-minute “elevator pitch” to the judges. WESTWOOD, N.J. -- The Westwood Teen Center is now open Fridays from 7:30-10 p.m. to provide recreation and social activities.
