A Gerome Avenue resident dialed 911 after catching Kyung Cho, a 21-year-old clerk, rummaging through a neighbor’s car around 6:15 a.m., Capt. Stephen Gallagher said.

Cho claimed “he was looking for an Uber vehicle,” Gallagher said.

The resident came out and scared off Cho, then pointed arriving police toward Lemoine Avenue.

Moments later, Detective Dennis Pothos arrested Cho at the intersection of Lemoine Avenue and Hoyt Street, assisted by Sgt. Billy Triantafillou and Officer Carlos Cabrera.

He was carrying pills not prescribed to him, Gallagher said.

A witness identified Cho as the car burglar, the captain said.

Cho was first taken to Bergen Regional Medical Center and then released on a summons, under New Jersey’s 2017 Bail Reform and Speedy Trial Act, Gallagher said.

He’s charged with motor vehicle burglary, theft and drug possession, the captain said.

A July 28 first appearance in Central Judicial Processing Court in Hackensack was set.
