Train Service In NW Bergen Disrupted By Man Standing On Tracks
Commuter rail service was disrupted in northwest Bergen County after a man stood on the tracks Wednesday afternoon and refused to move, authorities said. Police were called as NJ TRANSIT diverted at least two trains around the man, who parked himself between the Ho-Ho-Kus and Waldwick stations around 3:30 p.m. The man finally relented and walked to the Ho-Ho-Kus station at Brookside Avenue and 1st Street, where he was taken into custody. NOT SO FAST: Nor'easter Winds Aren't Gone, Meteorologists Warn
Although things seemed calm Thursday, forecasters said a powerful Nor'easter that slammed into North Jersey the night before, flooding streets and toppling trees, wasn't gone yet. Trees struck two houses in Hawthorne, as well as in: Glen Rock on Edgemont Road; Hackensack on Kansas Street; Franklin Lakes on Dakota Trail; Ho-Ho-Kus on Brookside Avenue. Search In Ho-Ho-Kus Ends For Man Who Threatened 'Suicide By Cop'
HO-HO-KUS, N.J. -- A search in Ho-Ho-Kus for a man who reportedly threatened "suicide by cop" was abandoned Friday afternoon. New York City police notified local authorities that the man may have been in Ho-Ho-Kus, where his minivan was found. A Bergen County Regional SWAT Team and county sheriff's K-9 unit were dispatched to Brookside Avenue in Ho-Ho-Kus, where the minivan was found. A search of the vehicle turned up nothing suspicious. Brookside was temporarily closed between North Maple Avenue and Cliff Street before being reopened. Boyd A. Loving contributed to this article.
