Totally New Kind Of Ice Cream Comes To Paramus PARAMUS, N.J. — It’s no surprise it was John Chan who brought Thai-style ice cream to Paramus. At any given time, the man has eight flavors of ice cream in his refrigerator at home in Queens. When he discovered Rolling Cow in Brooklyn, he knew he had to open one at the Garden State Plaza. The grand opening was just a few weeks ago. “I just thought it was missing outside of New York City,” said Chan. Rolling Cow uses a technique that originated on the streets of Thailand. Using all fresh ingredients, the ice cream chef makes each serving right in front of the person who ordered it. A…

It's A Bird ... It's A Plane ... It's A Garage On Wheels In Glen Rock RUTHERFORD, N.J. — At 9 a.m. Thursday, a Nomad Oil van pulled up to a Toyota RAV4 at the Meadows Office Complex in Rutherford. Inside, its owner worked. Outside, on the service road, mechanic Roberto Gonzalez changed its oil and rotated the tires. When it was time to go home for the day, the owner was able to jump into a maintained car. Sounds easy. That was just the kind of seamless, easy scenario Eric Pearson, founder of Nomad Oil, used to dream about. His mobile auto service – used in lieu of a garage for routine maintenance – first hit the road a year ago and is now busy throughout…

Westwood Assemblywoman: Restore Mental Health Funds WESTWOOD, N.J. — State Assemblywoman Holly Schepisi (R-Westwood) is opposing a shift in how the state plans to fund community mental health services as of next July. Mental health agencies statewide, including four in Bergen County, have said the reduction would shutter programs. In Bergen County, some 7,000 people on needed medications would cease getting them, according to the Dumont-based Vantage Health System. “We have such a significant issue with mental health services, drug addiction,” Schepisi said in a statement released by Assembly Republicans. “They’re tied in together,” she ad…

Need For Schools Supt. Dominates Saddle Brook Race SADDLE BROOK, N.J. — Five candidates vying for three seats on the Saddle Brook Board of Education seemed to agree on one point at a recent candidates night: the need for a great person to head up the district. Current Interim Schools Supt. Anthony Riscica took the reins as of this school year. But, before him, the position turned over twice since 2010. Incumbents David Gierek and Michael Accomando are running, along with Angela Robinson, who has served on the board in the past. Also in the field of candidates are Tim White, son of Mayor Robert White, and Joseph Zottarelli, husband of curr…
