After seeing the pair swipe packages from the front steps of a Boulevard home Wednesday afternoon, Officer Michael McDermott notified Glen Rock police, Police Chief Dean Ackermann said.

Working a nearby road construction detail was Officer Sam Evans, who grabbed the pair on Lincoln Avenue near William Place, the chief said.

Assisting were Detective Sgt. Jim Calaski and Officers Bob Surdyka, Nick Onove and T.J. Grazian, he said.

The duo – identified as Rafael G. Del Rosario, 20, of Paterson, and Anthony Chalas, 18, of Hawthorne -- were charged with receiving stolen property and littering and released pending a hearing under New Jersey’s 2017 bail reform law, Ackermann said.

Meanwhile, police were trying to determine whether they were involved in other area thefts this week, he said.

The chief asked residents with home video systems or Ring-style doorbells to review footage and contact Calaski if they see any suspicious people: (201) 670-3948 or jcalaski@glenrockpolice.com.
